Gin & Tonic
Long, dry and bitter-edged, the tonic's quinine pulling against the gin's botanicals while the lime wedge sharpens both. Refreshing rather than contemplative. The gin has to hold its shape against all that dilution: juniper and citrus carry through, where delicate florals tend to vanish.
At 39.2% this Istrian dry gin is too gentle to hold its shape in a Martini or Negroni; a long glass and a dry tonic let its juniper and herbal side carry.
Gin Basil Smash
Bruised basil turns this green and gives it a peppery, herbal lift; underneath sits a lemon sour, tart with just enough sugar to round it off. The basil is loud, so the gin needs juniper and spine to be heard at all — softer floral styles tend to vanish into the leaf.
Its dry Mediterranean herbal finish and pine run alongside bruised basil rather than fighting it, and the juniper-first attack still reads through the leaf even at 39.2% because lemon and syrup are doing the rounding anyway.
Gin Sour
Lemon leads and sugar follows close enough to keep it drinkable, while egg white thickens the texture and rounds off the acid. The foam is cool and near-tasteless; the sour underneath is bright and sharp. Juniper has to push through all that citrus, so a dry, assertive gin holds its shape best.
Bone-dry with no sugar of its own and a faint citrus lift, it holds its juniper shape under the lemon, and the softer 39.2% mouthfeel sits naturally with the egg-white foam.
